Program Overview

In this module, you must safely complete a simple work task at heights. You will be challenged to recognize defective PPE, locate proper tie off locations, and secure hand tools. You can practice these skills in one of the practice environments or challenge yourself to complete them in a “real world” Assessment Challenge.

Core Learning Objectives

This module is designed to assess your current working knowledge of how to work at heights safely. If you make any mistakes, there is an appropriate consequence experienced.

Listed below are the possible outcomes of the assessment:

  • Fired for taking too long to comply with superior's request

  • Injured in falling accident (damaged PPE)

  • Fatally injured in scaffolding collapse (missing/damaged PPE, incorrect tie off)

  • Fatally injured a bystander (unsecured or dropped tool)

  • Saved by your PPE in scaffolding collapse (proper safety used)

Entering the Experience

Login and Authentication

To use this experience, you must log in using a PIXO account created by the organization’s administrator, or by a PIXO VR Representative. The login must be performed from a headset that is connected to the internet for authentication to work successfully.

Tip: Select the Remember me flag to save your login credentials for your next session.

  1. Enter your PIXO credentials in the corresponding fields, then select Sign In.

  2. Once logged in, you will proceed to the Welcome Staging Area to watch the Welcome Video.

Welcome Staging Area

After the video completes, you can select Harness Inspection Training or Tie Off Training to join a Practice Room. Practice Rooms allow you to practice the skills required to complete the Assessment Challenge.

Harness Inspection Training

    • Straps Ripped, Cut or Torn

    • Straps Worn and Frayed

    • Buckles Torn

    • Buckles Broken

  2. Select the Randomize Harnesses button to continue practicing

  3. Once a harness without defects is found, pull it to your chest to don it

  4. Select Check My Harness Selection button

Tie Off Training

  1. Tie the Hammer to the front of your harness (right hand side)

  2. Tie Off to the dedicated life line

  3. Select the Reset Scene button to continue practicing.

Experience Walkthrough

Once you are finished practicing in the Practice Rooms, select the Assessment Challenge

To complete the Assessment Challenge, follow the sequence below:

  1. Upon loading the scenario, you will be asked to join your superior at the work site.

  1. First, inspect and don your Harness:

    1. To pick up the harness, use the Trigger on your controller.

    2. Use either hand to grab and rotate it in place by swiping your hand.

    3. You can also grip the harness to view it from the bottom.

    4. If a harness is damaged — throw it in the trash before reaching into the Gang Box again to spawn a new one.

    5. Possible Defects:

      • Straps Ripped, Cut or Torn

      • Straps Worn and Frayed

      • Buckles Torn

      • Buckles Broken

  1. To don a harness, bring it close to your chest until it disappears and applies to your torso. To change your harness decision, simply apply another harness.

  2. Next, select a Lanyard from the Lanyard Closet.

    1. Grip and apply the carabiners to your harness by overlapping them on any valid attachment point.

    2. If a lanyard is damaged — toss it into the trash to spawn a new one.

  1. After applying a harness and lanyard, take the elevator to the worksite. To use the elevator, enter it and press the Green Call Button.

  2. Upon arriving at the worksite, you will be asked to retrieve and deliver a Hammer to your superior working on the opposite end of a scaffolding system.

  1. The hammer and tie off mechanism is located to the left hand side of the elevated platform. Pick up the hammer and tie it to the front of your harness (right hand side).

  2. After tying the hammer to your harness, tie off to the dedicated life line.

  3. You can then attempt to cross the elevated platform to deliver the hammer to your superior. At a random interval, the platform will collapse under you, testing if you are properly protected from a fall.

Experience End

After the result is experienced, you are taken to an ending area where you can learn how well you performed.

If you failed, you can see what you failed on, “reset” the scene and re-attempt, or quit and return to the staging area. You can review your mistakes and retry the simulation to ensure you understand what precautions you'll need to take.
