Program Overview

This first aid training module provides employees with a life-like experience to learn and practice basic first aid skills. You will have to react to a co-worker’s injury, gather supplies, perform stabilizing first aid, contact emergency services, and properly follow up after the aid is complete. You have two chances to correctly complete the virtual reality scenario and earn your first aid certificate.

This will be a pass-fail course; if you make mistakes during the evaluation, you will be provided the opportunity to correct your errors and continue with the evaluation, however mistakes will be tracked and making enough errors along the way will cause you to fail.

Core Learning Objectives

The main goal of this module is to assess the participant's ability to perform First Aid on both an electrical burn and a deep laceration. 

 

Tools

• Laser Pointer — To interact with menus and objects in this experience, aim your laser pointer at the item you wish to interact with and pull the trigger on your controller to select it.

• Bandage Wrap — To wrap a bandage around a patient:

  1. Select where the bandage starts (bottom of wound; wrap upwards)

  2. Follow the targets while completing a steady, circular motion around the patient’s arm

Entering the Experience

Login and Authentication

To use this experience, you must log in using a PIXO account created by the organization’s administrator, or by a PIXO VR Representative. The login must be performed from a headset that is connected to the internet for authentication to work successfully.

 

Tip: Select the Remember me flag to save your login credentials for your next session.

 

1. Enter your PIXO credentials in the corresponding fields, then select Sign In.

2. Once logged in, you will proceed to the lobby room where the tutorial video will play. To skip the tutorial, select the Skip button in the upper right corner of the lobby menu.

Lobby

After logging in, you will proceed to the lobby, where you can select your Experience and Region:

• Experience — choose between replaying the Tutorial or the Assessment
• Region — choose between USA, Australia or Saudi Arabia

 

Tip: Switch between Easy and Advanced modes by using the toggle in the bottom right corner:

• Easy Mode — users get two chances to complete each step correctly before being told the correct answer and moving on

• Advanced Mode — users get two chances to complete each step correctly before failing

 

Experience Walkthrough

In this module, there are two scenarios: Electrical Burn and Laceration. The order in which these scenarios appear are in a randomized order.

 

Tip: To exit a scenario, press the Exit button with your virtual hands:

Electrical Burn Scenario

In this scenario, you will need to provide first aid to your colleague in a warehouse. You will hear an accident occur in which your colleague is burned from an electrical cabinet and must approach them to help.

1. First, approach the patient.

2. Remove any hazards within the environment.

   • Possible Hazards — Electrical Wire, Cabinet Knob

   • Tip: Select the electrical cabinet’s power switch to turn it off.

3. Once all hazards are removed, you may begin managing the incident.

4. You will be asked what you should do first, and you should respond by activating the patient with your laser pointer. You can then proceed with asking them questions to find out more information on their injury.

5. Once you have assessed the incident, decide if your colleague needs medical attention or not.
6. If your colleague needs medical attention, dial emergency services from your smartwatch, located on your left wrist. The number that you need to dial will depend on your local region.
   1. Tap your Smartwatch
   2. Select Phone Number (answer depends on local region selected in lobby)
   3. Answer remaining questions.
   4. Emergency services are now on their way.

7. Gather supplies from the medical cabinet located within the environment by selecting them with your laser pointer.

8. After gathering the medical supplies, equip PPE from the medical cabinet.
   • Gloves — Touch box and pull the trigger on your controller to activate
   • Glasses — Pick up glasses and place them near your face
9. Decide what to do next by selecting the patient with your laser pointer.
10. Apply the wound dressing.
    1. Grab the gauze dressing from the medical cabinet.
    2. Apply the gauze dressing to the patient’s arm.
11. Wrap the bandage. Check the placard for further instructions.
    1. Select where the bandage starts
    2. Follow the targets while completing a steady, circular motion around the patient’s arm

12. Lastly, answer three questions regarding what you should do next.
13. Experience ends.

Laceration Scenario

In this scenario, you will need to provide first aid to your colleague in a warehouse. You will hear an accident occur in which your colleague is cut from a saw.

1. First, approach the patient.
2. Remove any hazards within the environment.
   • Possible Hazards — Saw, Debris
3. Once all hazards are removed, you may begin managing the incident.
4. You will be asked what you should do first, and you should respond by activating the patient with your laser pointer. You can then proceed with asking them questions to find out more information on their injury.

5. Once you have assessed the incident, decide if your colleague needs medical attention or not.
6. If your colleague needs medical attention, dial emergency services from your smartwatch, located on your left wrist. The number that you need to dial will depend on your local region.
