V1.1
If you have troubles with jittering, leave your headset on the ground in the middle of your
play zone so you can see if the image is stable.
If you are seeing a low level of wobbles than the hardware is ok, but if the image is shaking a lot then your hardware may have
some kind of defect. Either way this tutorial will show you how to solve this problem.
Follow these steps so you can troubleshoot Jitter on your HTC Vive.
Step 1. Check your base stations
● You will need to make sure if your base stations are stable.
Step 2. You will need to run room setup one more time
Step 3. Check if your base stations have protective plastic on
● Remove the protective plastic from your base stations
■ Clean your base stations
Step 4. Cover everything that can cause reflection in your room
● You will need to cover your TV , windows….
Step 5. Change USB 3.0 to 2.0
Step 6. Use Sync cable in mode A-B
● Without the Sync cable in use change Lighthouses B-C to C-B
Step 7. You will need to test both of your base stations individually
■ Single station in A
Step 8. Turn off any Bluetooth or Wi-Fi source.
● Also turn off the network controllers.
■ Restart your PC and start fresh room setup
Step 9. Disable performance settings in SteamVR
● Also disable Bluetooth communication and camera.
Step 10. Take a look inside in your base stations, while it’s tracking there should
be two striped spots.
● IF you see only one stripe than your base station is broken.
Step 11. Reduce distance between your headset and the base stations
Step 12. Reinstall SteamVR
Step 13. Make the setup in different environment
● Try to make it on a different PC
■ If this step doesn't solve your problem, contact HTC support.
Room Setup
The VIVE allows for three types of setups: Room Scale VR (walking), seated or standing. For
seated or standing operation, you can use a typical office desk area space.
If you will be walking around, choose a room with more free space. We recommend using a 10 ft
x 10 ft space that has overhead room, as some experiences may have users reaching above
their heads.
Install Base Stations
1. Make sure you can see both Base Stations from everywhere in your play area. Ideally
they are placed at opposite corners of your space, near the edges of your play area.
2. Set up Base Stations
3. Set Tripods up at opposite corners of the Space
a. Base stations attach to the top of the Tripod and should be above head height
(Ideally over 2m or 6.5 feet), and angled down 30-45 degrees.
b. The base stations should have an unobstructed view of each other.
4. Plug Base Stations into an Outlet with Provided Power Cords
a. If the cord is too short to reach an outlet, use a 12V power cable extension.
5. Sync Base Stations
a. Press Mode Button on a Base Station, Readout on the front should be “b”
b. Press Mode Button on the other base station until the readout is “c”
c. If Base Station LEDs do not turn white after 10-15 seconds, something may be
wrong:
i. Blue LED - Check that the base is mounted securely
ii. LED Off - The base does not have power. Check the power source.
iii. Slow White Blinking LED - The base is in standby mode. Try unplugging
and replugging in the base station to fix this.
iv. Solid or Blinking Purple - The base stations are having trouble seeing
each other. Make sure nothing is in the way. If your room makes it
impossible for the bases to see each other (and the LED is purple), there
is another way to sync.
1. Grab Sync Cable from Headset Box
2. Connect Base Stations with Sync Cable
3. Push Mode Buttons on the back of the base stations so that one
base station is “a” and one base station shows “b”. The base
station lights should now turn solid white
