V1.1

The Boundary is a built-in safety feature that lets you set up "virtual walls" in VR that appear when you get too close to the edge of your play area. If you're setting up a boundary for the first time, follow the instructions you see in your headset.
Meta Quest Boundary Setup
-
Set floor level (tap the floor with your controller).
-
Look around the room to scan your environment. The headset will then suggest a "virtual wall" based on your surroundings.
-
If you are happy with the suggested boundary, select "Continue".
-
-
To set your boundary manually, select "Choose your own boundary".
-
Select "Roomscale".
-
Tip: Only select "Stationary" if you have limited floorspace. Trainees who are new to VR often need a larger playspace than what Stationary boundaries allow.
-
-
Use your controller trigger to trace a safe boundary along your floor, avoiding objects that you can potentially run into.
-
-
Select "Continue".
Boundary Modes
When setting up a Boundary, you can choose from the following modes:
-
Stationary — Best for using your headset while sitting or standing in place. Stationary Mode creates a default area of 3 feet by 3 feet (1 meter by 1 meter) centered on yourself.
-
Roomscale — Best for using your headset while moving around inside your play area. Roomscale allows you to draw your boundaries in your physical space using a controller. We recommend a safe and unobstructed space measuring at least 6.5 feet by 6.5 feet (2 meters by 2 meters).
Adjusting your Boundary
To Switch Modes or Redraw a Boundary:
-
Press the Meta button (oculus button on older devices) on your right controller to pull up your universal menu.
-
Hover over the clock on the left side of the universal menu. When "Quick settings" appears, select it to open the Quick Settings panel.
-
Select "Boundary", then "Adjust boundary".
-
Select "Stationary" or "Roomscale", then follow the on-screen instructions.
Passthrough Mode
If using a Meta Quest 3 device or newer, you will also have access to Passthrough Mode. Passthrough mode allows you to step outside your immersive view to see a real-time view of your surroundings.
To switch to and from Passthrough mode, double tap the side of your headset.
Additional Boundary Settings
To manage additional settings:
-
Press the Meta button on your right controller to pull up your universal menu.
-
Hover over the clock on the left side of the universal menu. When "Quick Settings" appears, select it to open the Quick Settings panel.
-
Select the Settings icon in the top right corner.
-
Select "Environment setup > Boundary" from the left menu.
The settings you can manage here include:
| Create New Boundary |
Return to boundary setup. |
| Set Floor Level |
Adjust the floor level of your Boundary. |
| Roomscale Boundary Color |
Change the color of your Boundary. |
| Stationary Boundary Size |
Choose from Small, Medium or Large. |
| Glanceable Boundary |
When enabled, you can look down at an angle while in-VR to quickly see where you are in your playspace. |
| Boundary Sensitivity |
Simple — adjust the sensitivity of your boundaries collectively with a single slider. Lower sensitivity generally means you won’t be alerted until you get closer to your boundaries.
Advanced — adjust sensitivity at a more granular level:
|
| Clear Boundary History |
Clears the boundary history for all accounts on the headset.
This means if you have more than one account on your Meta Quest headset, boundary maps and tracking data will be removed from all accounts. |
